Moneystown NS in the Allianz Coughlan Cup 2012 by Dylan Graham, 6th Class

On the 10th October 2012, 11 boys and 1 girl represented Moneystown NS in  a Gaelic blitz in Bray Emmet's GAA grounds. We won our first match against St. Brigids convincingly which gave us a great confidence boost heading into the next match.  However, we lost narrowly by a point in our second match against Ashford.  It was disheartening as we knew we had the ability to beat them.  We were determined to get a win in our next game against St. Josephs which we did as we were the better team.  Our defence were very strong and St. Josephs didn’t manage to get any score. Our final match was against St. Cronans and we knew we were up against it. After a very hard fought battle we lost by 3 points.   We were very happy with our performance in all matches.  There was still the division stage to come and we knew we could make our school proud.

On the 7th November 2012 our school team again headed to Bray Emmets GAA ground with a lot of confidence, as we had been the winners of Division 4 last year.  We hoped to build on that success. The group we were drawn in was hard and our first match was against St. Josephs A.  It was a very windy day and playing conditions were difficult. We had to fight hard and play well as a team and even though this match ended in a draw we were still confident of reaching the final.  We had to beat St. Fergals to advance to the final and we did this on a score line of  3 points to 1. We reached the final against Arklow Gaelscoil and we knew we would have a battle on our hands to win.  The conditions deteriorated and we agonisingly lost by a point.

We were still very proud of performance  and received medals for being runners up in Division 3.  We would like to thank Mr. McGillycuddy our team coach for his dedication and support and to all the parents who brought us to and from the matches.
