'Camán and give it a go!' Hurling Initiative in West Wicklow

Week 1 of the new Wicklow Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Hurling initiative took place in St Mary's Senior National School Blessington.The initiative involves 8 weeks of coaching in the school by the local GDA and class teacher. Each class will receive 2 hurling sessions per week and helmets, hurls plus balls will be left in school for the 8 week period for children and teachers to use. Each session is designed by the GDA and focuses on 2 key skills. This session is then replicated by the teacher during the week using the equipment left in the school. The first session focused on the dribble and the ground strike. Over 65 children took part today. This initiative is currently running in West Wicklow in 3 National Schools and will finish in 7 weeks time with a Go Games Hurling Blitz involving the 3 schools.
