Rathcoyle on top in the Allianz Tráth na gCeist

Body:

The Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Trath na gCeist took place on Thursday evening last in Lynham's Hotel in Laragh and was a fantastic success. This was made possible by the support of the schools, the huge amount of parents who provided both lifts and support, and of course the 24 teams of boys and girls who travelled from all over the county to participate in the table quiz. There were eight rounds of questions based on Gaelic Games, geography, history, current affairs and general knowledge. After five rounds Rathcoyle NS had jumped into what looked like an insurmountable lead with a staggering 50 out of 50. However St Kevin's NS Greystones, Talbotstown NS, Tynock NS and Kilcoole PS, to name but a few, were in hot pursuit and closed the gap down to one point heading into the final round. But despite the pressure Rathcoyle held on to the most slender of leads to claim victory on the night. St Kevin's finished second and one point behind them again was Talbotstown NS claiming bronze. The standard of answers by all schools on the night was fantastic and we would like to compliment the children for this. There was also a raffle on the night with spot prizes generously donated by the schools. Plenty of lucky boys and girls went home with new sliotars, footballs, book vouchers, selection boxes and much more. We would like to thank all the teachers who helped out on the night and made the table quiz possible. Thanks also to Lynham's Hotel for hosting us and our sponsor Allianz Insurance. A great night was had by all. Unfortunately we never got to our tie breaker, so we will leave you with a question; how many toes has a dog?
