Scoil Chualann Claim Division 1 of the Girls' Wicklow Times Shield
Scoil Chualann Girls' football team, Bray, had a comprehensive victory over St Laurence's, Greystones in the playoff of Division 1 Wicklow Times Shield competition, held in Bray Emmets grounds on Thursday 30th March.
The Bray girls were in command from early on, inspired by midfield trio of Aoibhe Ní Threinfir, Alannah Ní Arrachtain and Emma Nesbitt, the latter ensuring the game's opening score. It was a game of wonderful skills, with tremendous displays of blocking and tackling, with only a solitary point dividing the sides at half time.
Despite the best efforts of the Greystones' girls, who started the stronger on the resumption of the game, it was Scoil Chualann who made the most of a slight breeze. Captain Emma Nic Breandain was a powerhouse in defence and lead by example, assisted ably by Doireann Nic Gabhann and Jasmine Ní Chinneide. Super sub Martha Lackey added to previous Gaelscoil scores from Aoibhe Ní Threinfir, Ailbhe Ní Mhaoilmhichil and eventual Laoch Imeartha Emma Nesbitt.
St Laurence's could only manage one more point to, due to superb Scoil Chualann marking, in particular from midfield star Alannah Ní Arrachtain, who herself scored the final point to ensure the Allianz Wicklow Times Shield would be returning to the Bray Gaelscoil.
