St. Laurence’s Represent Wicklow

Body:

On one of the first 'Championship Sundays' of the summer, St Laurence's NS, Greystones, got the opportunity to strut their stuff at half-time in the Wicklow v Louth Leinster Senior Football Championship match at Parnell Park on May 21st. Fresh from winning the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Coughlan Cup competition, the team were invited to play an exhibition match against their Louth counterparts.

During the first half of the senior match, both teams were eyeing each other anxiously in the stand and nerves reached fever-pitch as they lined up waiting to take the field. There was little to be worried about, however, as both teams gave a great account of themselves, showcasing all that is great about Gaelic Games; sportsmanship, skill and speed of thought and play. Some great scores were kicked on both sides, much to the delight for the spectators in the stand.

Alas, the teams had to move aside to let the 'big boys' play on, but give it a few years and they could well be the 'big boys' themselves!
