Three National Awards make their way to the Garden County

Body:

A great night was had in the Newpark Hotel in Kilkenny on Friday 9th March at the Cornmarket Cumann na mBunscol National Awards.  These awards cover the thirty-two counties of Ireland and the fact that Wicklow has such a fine history at the Awards is testament to the quality of work going on in the primary schools in the county.  Wicklow had two schools nominated in the category ‘Large School of the Year’.  Scoil Chualann came 2nd in this category, which is an unbelievable achievement, as it is the first time that they have entered the competition.  There is a huge amount of work being done in the school and their project reflected this.  Maith sibh!  Kilcoole Primary School came 3rd in this category, having been runners-up last year and winners the previous year.  Again this shows huge commitment to Gaelic games and culture in the school.  Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Chill Mhantáin received a Recognition Award for their work in Public Relations, which is very much supported by the local papers and radio station.  We are extremely grateful for this exposure.  It was a very successful night for the Garden County and all involved should be really proud of their achievement.  Brian Cody was an inspirational guest speaker on the night, and he emphasised one particular point that can be applicable to all, we are involved with Gaelic games because we enjoy them.  It is Seachtain na Gaeilge this week and in Wicklow there is no doubt that there is huge pride for our Gaelic games and culture.
